MINUTES of MARCH 15, 2012 ANC 4A MEETING

Brightwood Education Campus, 1300 Nicholson Street NW, Washington, DC

        


Roll Call:  In attendance were Commissioner Kennedy, Boyd, Whatley, Toliver, Bennett, and Black.

Absent was Commissioner Wilson.

Approximately 19 persons were in attendance from the community.

Commissioner Toliver called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.

I.     ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS

a.    Commissioner Bennett moved that the February 7, 2012 minutes be accepted and was seconded by Commissioner Kennedy.  Minutes passed.  Commissioner Bennett moved that the February 28, 2012 minutes be accepted and was seconded by Commissioner Whatley. All in favor. Minutes passed.

b.    Treasurer’s monthly report shows an ending balance of $51,396.45 as of February 29, 2012, savings ending balance $40,266.20.  Commissioner Black pointed out the $2,600 rent payment was for two months worth of rent.  Accounts changed over to new signatories.  Statements now coming to ANC office.

c.    Request to approve designation of Aunt Betty Way. 2012 Councilwoman Bowser introduced legislation to designate Quackenbos Street between Georgia Ave, NW and 13th Street NW as Aunt Betty Way.  Commissioner Toliver explained that the designation will be symbolic and won’t affect things like postal designations. Commissioner Toliver entertained motion to approve resolution to support name designation.  Motion to approve resolution to support name designation moved by Commissioner Whatley and seconded by Commissioner Black.  Commissioner Whatley mentioned that in 2008 the Commission voted to change the name of the Fort Stevens Recreation Center in honor of Aunt Betty.  Since this didn’t happen, he wholly supports the resolution.  All in favor.  Motion passed.  Chairman Toliver commissioned Commissioner Whatley to represent ANC 4A before the Council on this matter.  Commissioner Whatley said he would draft a letter showing the Commission’s support of this resolution. Commissioner Toliver said the letter should be submitted by Friday, March 16, 2012

d.    Tabled discussion on Potomac Appalachian Trail Club until April meeting.

        

II.  COMMISSIONER DISCUSSIONS/PRESENTATIONS

a.    Commissioner Whatley brought up new tax commission headed by Former Mayor Anthony Williams.  Said to keep eyes open because could lead to major changes in the district tax law.

III.          COMMUNITY CONCERNS

a.  There were no Commissioner Discussions/Presentations

Commissioner Kennedy moved to adjourn the meeting and was seconded by Commissioner Bennett.  All were in favor.  Motion carried.

Meeting adjourned at 7:21 pm.
